Sound of Insects Composer Receives Cinema Eye Award

Norbert Möslang’s original score for The Sound of Insects: Record of a Mummy received the Cinema Eye Award for Outstanding Achievement in Composing at the 2011 Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking, held at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens on January 18.

The Sound of Insects is Peter Liechti’s documentary account of a man alone in the wilderness, committing suicide by starvation, and the subsequent decay of his mind and body. Norbert Möslang’s evocative, haunting score works with the voice-over narration and natural soundscapes in counterpoint to the imagery of cinematographers Peter Liechti and Matthias Kälin (also nominated for Cinema Eye awards in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography).

The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking “recognize and honor exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film” (http://www.cinemaeyehonors.com/about). The awards were presented in the newly-renovated Riklis Theater at the Museum of the Moving Image.
